Taking The Lead For Fashion Quality

See Video Of Oak Brook Wedding Crasher: Cops

OAK BROOK, IL — A woman and her date crashed a wedding at The Drake hotel in Oak Brook late last month. But her goal apparently differed from the romance-seeking characters in the movie “Wedding Crashers.”

According to police, she danced for a short while, then stole another woman’s purse. It is documented on a video that police provided Patch.

At the beginning of the video, a teenager in a white dress can be seen sitting alone at a table next to the corner of a dance floor full of revelers. She got up and left a small purse on the table. A half minute later, the suspect placed her larger purse above the teen’s. The suspect, who was dressed in black, proceeded to dance with her date for about four minutes.

Then the suspect picked up her purse, and she and her date left. The teen’s white purse was no longer there. Police believe that the suspect had a false bottom to her purse, so she could grab the other one.

In an interview, Oak Brook police detective Scott Warren said the woman has been identified and that police plan to file charges.

According to a police report, the teen was attending her sibling’s wedding on May 28. The suspect and her date were not guests at the wedding, police said. The family posted a photo of the couple on Facebook, including on the Elmhurst News and Comment page.

After that, police got a tip that the couple was seen at Hyatt Place in Warrenville. Through that information, police were able to identify the man.

In an interview with the man, he confirmed he was at The Drake with the woman, whom he had met on a dating website, police said. He said that while at The Drake, they saw the wedding and wanted to dance.

He said he did not notice the woman had the small purse, but said he had a “weird feeling” about her, so he dropped her off at the Shell gas station at 22nd Street and Midwest Road in Oak Brook. The next morning, he said he noticed a small purse, flowers and a shawl had been left in his car, so he brought them to the Oakbrook Terrace Police Department, the report said. Oakbrook Terrace police confirmed they had the items.

About 7:30 a.m. Sunday, Warrenville police notified Oak Brook that the woman was still at Hyatt Place. They conducted a traffic stop of the woman about an hour later, issued her three citations and released her. Warrenville police confirmed it was the same woman at the wedding party, according to the report.

The last sentence of the police report says, “The case continues…”
