Marie Delices, a little piece of France in Scotland…

About Us

Marie, the French owner, passionate about food, Brittany and Scotland, is delighted to welcome you to her French café. With the help of her team, she’s aiming to provide good, honest and fresh homemade food in a friendly environment.

It took her almost 10 years to realise her dream and open her own little café dedicated to Brittany, here in Edinburgh.

After general business and catering management studies, she made apprenticeships in bakery and pastry, went to work in Brittany and then made an additional training in crepes to discover this great culinary patrimony in the pure traditional way. After managing a creperie in Brest, she finally felt ready to strike out on her own!

From Bordeaux her home town, to Angers, Paris, Lorient and Brest in Brittany, she landed here in Edinburgh, after discovering and falling in love with this amazing city.

Marie Delices opened on her birthday, on the 27th of February 2013.

Marie and her team are here to welcome you and deliver to you the best enjoyable and relaxing French experience.

A special thanks

I would like to say a special thanks to Ian Mcdonald from Ime property group, property management agency, www.ime.co.uk, located in 12 Home street, Edinburgh EH3 9LY.

He helped me in all the aspects of setting up my business here and carried out all the works to transform this office into a charming little nest. I owe him and his team this shop, and wouldn’t have opened it without them. So a huge thank you to them, to my family and friends. You made my dream come true.

♡ Marie

An authentic taste of France and Brittany

It is really important to me to work with companies of human size, family companies, which still work in an artisan way, and then perpetuate the tradition. Whether for the buckwheat flour, the cider or the bespoke crockery, I made a point in choosing the best suppliers which will offer you the real taste of Brittany.

Farine de Ble noir / Buckwheat flour

The galettes are the traditional dish of Brittany. They are similar to normal crepes but are made from buckwheat flour, which gives them this nutty flavor, and are usually filled with savoury ingredients. Gluten free, they offer a great alternative if you’re intolerant to gluten and are absolutely delicious.

In order you to discover the real taste of the Breton galettes, I import especially for you one of the best buckwheat flours of Brittany. The flour comes from a small mill in the region of Finistere and is stoned grounded by the same family for more than 3 generations. A unique taste, for an authentic Breton product and a perfect traceability.

Cidre artisanal / Craft cider

In Brittany, the tradition requires to drink a bowl of cider while you eat crepes and galettes.

I import directly for you this craft cider, produced by a small family for many years. It has a very fruity, smooth and delicate taste and is perfect to add some freshness to any meal. A very up market product.

Porcelaine francaise / French crockery

The crockery is a special handmade edition from Quimper in Brittany, with traditional Breton costumes painted on each piece, but made in a very modern way, which makes them very special.

I also brought back my grandparents wedding crockery from Limoges and my family furniture. Using them and sharing them with you makes me really happy as they mean a lot to me.
